After the keypad is programmed with the new code, the technician will test everything to make sure the garage door system is fully functioning. If it isn’t, the team will double-check that nothing is broken, then repeat the process.

Remote Programming

The only points at which remote programming gets complicated is when you’re trying to integrate it into an old system or adding a new garage door system. Remotes are much simpler to reset than keypads. All you have to do is find the “Learn” or “Program” button, push it, and hold it down for around 6 seconds (until the LED light turns off). All the other codes will be erased, and you can use the remote as you will.

Types of Garage Door Remotes

As the name suggests, this is the most common kind of remote. It’s usually shaped like a rectangle with enough buttons to clarify your options. It can be programmed to multiple doors and can work from any distance. Another large perk is that you don’t have to reprogram a standard remote if you change the door’s location. Standard remotes work well with residential doors of any age, but older commercial doors aren’t typically compatible.

Universal Remote

Universal remotes are so named because they’re compatible with almost every brand of garage door opener on the market. They use radio frequencies and infrared lights instead of specific brand codes.
